Has anybody heard of the "Montauk Monster"? It supposedly washed up on shore in Montauk, New York business district in July of 2008. Theories have ranged from a raccoon to a turtle, but none of them actually fit the creature. It has been covered, at least briefly, by various organizations of varying credibility, even having it's own web site now.

The fly indicates some scale of the creature.

In the beginning, God said "The four-dimensional divergence antisymmetric, second rank tensor equals zero." And there was light, and it was good. And on the seventh day, he rested.

The only problem with the turtle theory is that it shows teeth, which turtles do not have.

It appears to, yes, and the fact that it washed up on shore in New York would add to that thought. However, the middle picture, the one of the creature rolled over, shows more pig-like features. But it also shows tufts of thick hair, which is definitely a non-pig feature.

I suppose it could be a creation of taxidermy. After all, the body did 'mysteriously vanish' before any proper examination could occur.

hmm ya might have been an amphibious animal that bread with a pig or something and somehow the dna got fur in there somehow, and also, wouldn't they hold it so that it couldnt be taken before examinations could take place?sounds like a men in black coming to take it type scenario or something :/

To me, it sounds more like a prank or a scam than a 'men in black' type of thing. Is it possible that the corpse is real? Yes. However, the body conveniently vanished, stolen they said, before it could be professionally examined. To me, it sounds more like a scam than a 'mib'. But, since I did not see anything on the site for it, I thought I would throw it out there.

Why? Attention. Push interest in cryptozoology. Just to prove they could. Bring cryptozoologists into the area. Any or all of those.

How? A good taxidermist could make (and have made) creatures that looks like mythical creatures. Freak shows used to do it all the time. A good fake could fool people, which would bring more people into the area. Loch Ness is a prime example of what a 'mythical creature' can do for tourism in an area.
